The AHLA’s Board of Directors is responsible for governing the association by:

• Engaging in strategic thinking and planning.
• Participating in lobbying activities.
• Directing the AHLA’s work by approving annual business plans and budgets, and monitoring the AHLA’s progress toward its mission.
• Managing its own self-governance.
• Hiring & supervising the AHLA President & CEO.

The Board meets four times per year. Board members are elected for two-year terms and may be asked to serve on working committees and task forces, as required.

The AHLA’s Human Resource Advisory Council provides industry advice and insight to help shape the AHLA’s HR and safety strategy, programming, and role as a funded safety association. The council also supports AHLA’s advocacy on key workforce issues, including labour, immigration, and workplace health and safety.

• Provide industry perspective, feedback, and recommendations on AHLA’s HR and health and safety programs, services, and resources.
• Share operational data, insights, and advice to strengthen AHLA’s advocacy on behalf of Alberta’s hotel industry.
• Offer strategic input on HR and health and safety priorities to inform AHLA’s annual business plan and budget.
